#12 - McGlade's on the Pier, Cape May, NJ

Once we realized we were meeting Coach White for lunch on the Jersey shore instead of NY, we knew we had to find a fun place to eat that was right on the water.  Bernie McGlade, Kara's old boss, came to the rescue...her family owns McGlade's, and there are 2 locations--one on the Pier in Cape May, and one on the Beach in Ocean City.  Coach White vacations much closer to Cape May, and we really weren't too fired up about fighting the crazy crowds in Ocean City.

Cape May is an awesome little beach town.  I love Ocean City MD, but that's because one of my best friends Denise lives there in the summer so I almost feel like a local. If it weren't for her and her amazing family, I would probably never go.--too much stuff, too many people, too much commercial.  Cape May, on the other hand, is almost the opposite.  Of course there's still lots of people, but the old neighborhoods leading to the water are so quaint, and where we were seemed much less over-run by people.

We hadn't seen Coach White probably in 10 years, so it was so awesome to catch up with him & Jen, and meet their 3 beautiful kids.

McGlade's is right on the beach.  That can sometimes stink, because of the heat.  But they have a canopy over the outdoor seating, and even had the bug nets pulled down.  So all we got was the view and the breeze coming off the water, from our awesome table out on the patio.

Ordering with kids can be a challenge, especially 3 kids who all want something different.  But Jen was a whiz, and had them thinking of what they wanted from almost the moment we sat down.

I ordered the crabcake platter.

This was so delicious!  I'm more of a fan of the jumbo lump crabmeat, but the crab was so good I couldn't really complain.  The potato salad was well prepared, and not drowned in mayo.  The platter also came with fresh fruit (watermelon, cucumber, oranges and strawberries), an egg and 2 slices of cheese.  The meal was light and refreshing.  Until I ordered a side of fries, since Coach White did the same thing.

After lunch we took the kids next door to Morrow's Nut House for chocolate, and to do a little shopping.  We all got an assortment of chocolates, the kids got a few toys, and I bought a cute pair of flip flops.  Kara and I both ate our chocolate before we got back to the car. But, as we justified, we couldn't let the chocolate melt everywhere.

Will I go back?  I can't wait to go back to the whole of Cape May!  I wish we had more time to see the whole town. It's a great place to take a couple of families and rent a house for a week. If we weren't going to NYC we would have just stayed there overnight.
